When
people think of Cornwall, what do they usually think of? Beautiful
beaches? cider? pasties? Well, if you were hoping we were going to tell
you about some musical pasties, you would be sadly disappointed I’m
afraid. I do, however, know of some fantastic, talented and extremely
musical Pirates… and I must say they are some very jolly ones too! Meet
Samantha (Lady Of The Sea), Jae (Captain JamRag) and Kynan (Bosun 2 Toes
Smooth) - AKA, JollyRoger!
JollyRoger
were formed in February 2019 and they haven’t wasted any time sharing
their punk-rock-folky sounds with the masses. They have since released 3
EP’s, their debut album and even supported some of their musical
influences such as The Rumjacks, Fisherman’s Friends and Mad Dog Mcrea... as well as featuring on their local BBC radio AND being filmed for Channel 4 playing their first single - 21st Century Pirate, which is due to be aired in 2021. They do say there is no rest for the wicked!
These
guys haven’t even let the global pandemic stop them. During these
difficult times they have been hard at work encouraging other artists
and helping to keep live music in peoples lives by presenting virtual
music festivals, including the UK’s biggest pirate festival (Brixham)
along with hosting regular “Musicians Together” nights with other local
artists. They also managed to attract more of a global following through
their consistent Facebook live streams on their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/jollyrogerbanduk.
If
you thought they had already managed to squeeze a lot into their short
time performing together, you would be slightly mistaken. Last year,
they were also asked to host the final of Bloodstock’s South West Metal 2 the Masses and were lucky enough to win themselves a newcomer slot at the biggest medieval festival in Europe - Mediaval Festival in
Selb, Germany. Depending on whether the worldwide situation has blown
over by then, this is due to take place in 2021 so watch this space!
